John C. Lilly is one of the most interesting people of the 20th century, and this autobiography is a must-read for fans of the 60's and 70's fringe psychology, psychedelics, and New Age metaphysics.
If you like the psychedelic literature of Timothy Leary, Terrence Mckenna, Aldous Huxley, and others you will enjoy reading Center of the Cyclone.
John C. Lilly was a nuerophysiologist, medical doctor, inventor, and dolphin researcher. His influence on science and culture, though not well known, is actually quite immense.
The book starts with his early experiments with LSD and sensory deprivation, then follows Lilly as he leaves traditional science beyond and sets of on a journey of self-discovery and metaphysical truth seeking that will last for many decades.
Along with being an entertaining story of dolphins, acid trips, and fringe science, there are some valuable and fascinating insights into the nature of consciousness, the role of programming and conditioning in human behavior an psychology, and how to overcome mental roadblocks and reprogram your "human biocomputer." Great read.
